Hey all,
So we are about to leave for our big journey in just a couple of days. ” We” includes 8 undergraduate students from Duke University (7 engineers and 1 biology major) as well as 20 other college students from around the world. We are going about to embark on our Engineering World Health Summer Institute project in Central America. We will spend a month in San Josel, Costa Rica where we will take 2 classes, one on Spanish and the other on medical instrument repair training. The second month we will spend in another country in Central America (Duke students are in Nicaragua, others in Honduras) working in the local hospitals. We are waiting to determine what our communities need before we set any hard goals or tasks, but we are planning on repairing broken medical equipment, setting up new equipment, and working with the hospital staff esp technicians. We don’t really know what else but we will see when we get there!
Well I guess I should go work on packing. Its kinda difficult to know what we will need but luckily past students have been a big help. All I have to say now is that we are super excited (and a little nervous too)!
